Svolvaer on the catwalk
My track Svolvaer (From the Dark Days LP) was used in Iris Van Herpens ‘Syntopia’ – presenting her other-worldly new fall 2018 collection in Paris. I wouldn’t thought of this when I made this track 23 years ago on an korg MS20 and Roland MKS100 sampler on a rainy day in my parents attic 🙂

Star Shepherd Painting
Check out this new painting called “The Star Shepherd guiding his flock through Palm Springs”. Probably artwork for a future Nightwind Records release. Click on the picture to hear some more sounds from the Star Shepherd Synthesizer – a dreamy ambient drone piece to explore what this synth is capable of. Don’t mind the Lo-fi crackle, hiss and artefacts – it is held together with tape and glue after all! First more pure tones from the Casio 403 are processed through the filters, delays, pitch shifters of the Star Shepherd, later the radio noise oscillator comes in and gets heavily processed by the synth to create sinister dark harmonic tones.

STAR SHEPHERD SYNTHESIZER
Enter the STAR SHEPHERD a synth I Build/bent/hacked/modified from old guitar pedals FX and EQ boxes, a small AM radio and a 1981 Casio 403 keyboard. The oscillator section is made out of Pitchshifter/Harmonizers/Sub Octavers and a graphic EQ pedal to create complex harmonic tones – transmorphed from the simple keyboard sounds fed by the Casio. The sound then goes through a bunch of circuitbend Analog delays, reverbs, Tremolos & Vibratos (figuring as makeshift LFO sources) and Wahwah pedals as filters. The AM radio is figuring as a random noise source. There is also a very simple keyboard style ‘sequencer’ made from a looper pedal.
The case is made out of cheap plywood and everything is held together with screws, glue and tape. There are also some LED strips pulsating from the inside for some extra intense magic.
It is very noisey, crackley and sometimes starts doing its own thing like some sentient synthesizer being that is alive. This makes it quite an adventerous experience.
Here are some sound samples recorded directly from the synth. With no overdubbing nor external processing:
Dream Drone
Extreme crisp lo-fi breathing ambient pads. The endless array of delays, wah filters and pitchshifters create unknown harmonic content – almost giving it an early 90s rompler 8/12 bit effect.

The radio white noise is filtered through the wahwah pedal circuitry and lots more stuff – creating almost Ridley Scott ALIEN like talking sounds
Twin Otter Through Snowstorm
Sometimes the radio picks up distant voices that sound almost ring modulated due to all the interference of the circuitry inside – here it slowly transforms into the sound of an airplane flying through a snowstorm.
Poldertechno 154 style sweeping pads
Typical 90s style dutch ambient techno sounds (also known as ‘Poldertechno’)
