AKAI X7000
One of the first sampling keyboards from AKAI released in the year 1986. A big clonky heavy glorious 12 bit sampler with a maximum sampling time of 8 seconds…but only at the lowest bitrate….on the highest quality bitrate you have about 1 second of sampling time ;p ).
This is a keyboard version of the S700 rack sampler. Anything you put into this comes out with an enchanting digital crunchy compression. It uses 2.8″ qqickdiscs to save the samples, of which you need at least 2 to save the entire memory of 8 seconds. I never really bother with that and just record anything straight away and don’t save the samples…forces me to finish the track in one go 😉
Here is a little movie on instagram of me playing the X7000, having a different sample on each octave of the keyboard. The drums are a loop from my Smackos 808 simulator, the synths come from my Legowelt Roland Jupiter 8 sample pack and the vocoder is recorded from the Novation Mininova…
